Informing Democracy On Trump Indictment in Effort to Overturn 2020 Election Results in Georgia

Following reports that Donald Trump and 18 co-conspirators have been indicted by a grand jury for their efforts to overturn the results in Georgia of the 2020 presidential election, Informing Democracy Executive Director Jenna Lowenstein issued the following statement:

“These defendants—including a former president, his lawyers, fake electors, and even a local election official—tried to silence Georgia voters by attempting to overturn the results of the 2020 presidential election. Although Trump’s indictment alongside his co-conspirators is another important step toward accountability, our efforts to safeguard our democracy cannot end here.

“Protecting our elections means rooting out the disinformation spread by Trump and the officials he conspired with while also fighting for measures to protect our elections in 2024 and years to come. It is on all of us to speak out and show up for the country we want to live in—one where every vote is counted and where those tasked with running our elections cannot abuse their power.”
