Informing Democracy On SCOTUS Rejecting Anti-Democratic Actors In Moore v. Harper

Today, after the U.S. Supreme Court rejected a fringe legal theory peddled by far-right activists attempting to give state legislatures unchecked power to oversee federal elections, Informing Democracy Executive Director Jenna Lowenstein issued the following statement:

“Our democracy rests on the foundation that voters are the ones who decide elections, and this ruling helps prevent an anti-democracy agenda from subverting the will of the people. This decision also affirms a basic principle of what it means to live in America: Everyone must follow the laws that govern our democracy.

“Today, the Court clearly protected the essential role that state courts play in providing a check on the power of state legislatures, and made clear that lawmakers do not have free rein to decide how our elections are run or whose votes are counted.”
